The problem with geeks

Geeks don't think like normal people. The best comparison that comes to
mind
is to linguists who specialize in Latin. You would like a translation into
modern
English of, say, a text by Cicero. You ask : "Please, can I have a
translation of
De Natura Deorum ?" Here are some response to expect :

Here is a Spanish translation.

Here is a rendering into medieval Church Latin.

Here is a biography of Cicero.

Here is a timeline showing the sequence of Cicero's works.

Here is a discussion of the difficulties of translating Latin.

Here is a list of word frequency usages in Cicero.

Here are the opinions of Cicero's wife about De Natura Deorum.

Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor...

Lingua latina demortua est. Romanos occidit etenim me necat.

E canto traditionale Pauper barbarus errans.

In other words it is nearly impossible to get a straight answer
from a geek. For example, I typed in the following for a Google search :
"text editor" freeware " "full justification"

Simple, straight-forward request for a text editor that has a full
justification
function. I mean, could this be any clearer ?

Here is what I get, site after site, they all are like this--

Notepad2 is an _open-source_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-source_software)  _text  editor_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Text_editor)  for
_Microsoft Windows_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Windows) ,
released
under a _BSD_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BSD_licenses) _software license_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_license) . It was written by
Florian Balmer using the _Scintilla editor component_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scintilla_(editing_component)) , and it was first
publicly released in
April 2004. Balmer based Notepad2 on the principles of _Microsoft_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft)  _Notepad_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notepad_(software)) : small, fast, and usable.
It features _syntax highlighting_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syntax_highlighting)   for many _programming
languages_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Programming_languages) : _ASP_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Server_Pages) , _assembly language_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assembly_language)
, _C_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C_(programming_language)) , _C++_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C++) , _C#_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C_Sharp_(programming_language)) , _Common Gateway
 Interface_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Gateway_Interface)  (CGI), _Cascading
Style  Sheets_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascading_Style_Sheets)  (CSS), _HTML_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML) , _Java_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_(programming_language)) , _JavaScript_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JavaScript) ,
_NSIS_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nullsoft_Scriptable_Install_System) ,
_Pascal_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascal_(programming_language)) , _Perl_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perl) , _PHP_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PHP) , _Python_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Python_(programming_language)) ,
_SQL_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SQL) , _Visual  Basic_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_Basic)  (VB), _VBScript_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VBScript) , _XHTML_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XHTML) , and _XML_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XML) . It also features syntax highlighting for
the
following _file formats_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_format) : _BAT_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batch_file) , DIFF, INF, INI, REG, and
configuration files (.properties).
Notepad2 also has several other features:
    *   Auto indentation
    *   Bracket matching
    *   _Encoding_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Character_encoding)
conversion  between _ASCII_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASCII) , _UTF-8_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTF-8) , and _UTF-16_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTF-16)   formats
    * Multiple undo/redo; rectangular block selection
    *   _Newline_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newline)   conversion,
between _DOS_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOS)  (CR/LF), _Unix_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix)  (LF), and _Macintosh_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macintosh)  (CR) formats
    *   _Regular  expression_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regular_expression) -based find and replace
Balmer has stated that some features will probably never be implemented in
Notepad2, as they are beyond his design goal of a simple Notepad-like
application. These include Notepad2's most requested feature, a _multiple
document interface_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiple_document_interface)
.
Other missing features such as _code folding_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_folding) , file associations and bookmarks
are available through
modifications, linked from the homepage. Starting with version 4.2.25-rc6, an
x64 build is also offered.
This is entirely worthless. I have no use for anything said.
Tons of useless information that completely misses the point. Worse,
the language is almost entirely arcane, as if the writer was communicating
only to other geeks, no humans need apply.

Most of the "features" cited are irrelevant to anything at all.

Much of the language (not so much this example, but generally)
--there are exceptions-- is substandard English.

Content seems to be a "wedge issue" with geeks, as if the only important
stuff consists of computer jargon, gizmos, new ways to slice and dice
data,
and anything but relating to users who need to concentrate on substance.
If auto manufacturers sold cars this way, horses and buggies would still be
competitive with automobiles, the only buyers would be mechanics
and business proprietors.
My humble opinion for today
Billy
