This cartoon reminded of writing my dissertation. I did virtually the whole thing with two spaces (as I was taught in high school) before I realized that my style guide, APA 5th, required only one space. First I panicked, then I figured out that I could do a global search and replace. I might have hung myself in the pre-word-processor days.
The newspaper journalist style guide is "line break after every sentence".
