Jerry:
Yes, Sci-Fi does things -for the better- with your mind.
The educational potential is incredible. Or in your case,
philosophical potential. Your description sounds reminiscent
of Lewis Carroll. Mine is more akin to Frank Baum
and the Wizard of Oz.

Huffman , BTW, was able to locate me in 2004. He isn't the same
person he was, back in the 1960s.. Of course, no-one is, but maybe
you understand.

Actually he is and isn't the same, but he definitely is more negative
despite
his career success. And more logically inconsistent. Several theories why,
but I don't think you ever knew him, so not much point in delving into
that side of things. He still has Diabrainia, I'd say his approach is along
the lines of Tolkein, but doesn't do much with it these days,
although this may be changing.

We did come up with a theory that is an excellent substitute for Dorothy's
tornado.
The ETs have been visiting Earth consistently for a long time. At least
1900 years.
They are able to identify people in life-threatening distress, like ships
at sea
that are about to sink, caravans lost in the Sahara and sure to perish,
etc,
These humans are "dead," that is, there is no chance for them to survive.

Then the ETs arrive in their UFOs and offer the humans a choice: The stars
or death on Earth. Close to 100% chose to go with the ETs.
And, of course, Earthlings elsewhere are totally clueless
this is happening. How could they know? They couldn't.

Lux, therefore, is a social science experiment on a grand scale, and there
are other experiments, like Regnum Parthorum, which has as its base line,
people rescued from fatal danger in the time of the Romans and the
Parthian Empire. How would civilization have developed if Rome
had not fallen and if Parthia had not been invaded by the Arabs?
That world has a lot of Zoroastrians, millions and millions. But those
kinds of Zoroastrianism are not ossified the way that Z-ism is ossified
on Earth; it has developed along Christian lines as we know them
and has various divisions, schools, denominations.....

While most of Lux follows modern versions of ancient religions there
also is a substantial humanist population, also many millions.
In that case the base line is Bruno and Erasmus and the Renaissance.

There is an independent French speaking country where the main religion
is an evolution from the cult of the Goddess of Reason of the French
Revolution.
What would that be like if it had survived and flourished?

Technologically the model for Lux, etc., is similar to Star Trek, but
not as advanced. Yet advanced enough that there is regular interstellar
travel.
About such things Arthur Clarke is gospel.

Also, not incidentally, I met Clarke when I was a doctoral student
at UMass; had the chance to talk with him for maybe an hour.

The neat thing about Lux was that, as a kid, if I wanted a Japanese country
it was necessary to study as much about Japan as possible to make
my Japanese country -called Imperial Empire- "realistic." Same for
Burgundy, which is a combination of France and Italy. And so forth.
After a while -several years, anyway- I had become sort of a walking
World Almanac; same was the case for Huffman.

Never thought of an Alice in Wonderland scenario, or maybe what
you are working with is more like Kafka. When you have the time
please tell me more.

Cheers / Cheerio

==================================

I tried to get the latest temperatures on Avesland from Weather.com - alas
without success. You've developed your world rather completely.

My world, at present, involves higher level beings, yet unnamed who live
in multiple dimensions and appear semi-translucent. They built magnificent
structures that occupy less than 1 sq. in. on the outside but are huge
inside. Much like Dr. Who's Tardis. Once a native wanders inside any
lingering question in his mind becomes an immensely edifying experience - i.e.
a
muslim thinks of Muhammed and Muhanned's whole life from utterances as child
to the last days are transmitted to the native's brain in a matter of
minutes. Or a native wonders about fundamental particles and it becomes clear
- at least to the level of the human's capacity to understand. In these
structures gods become more human with all their failings and virtues. From
Aristotle to Edison, from Wagner to Wotan.

My structures exist everywhere on the planet and humans who enter are
forever enlightened and changed. In some versions the hungry are fed, the
sick are healed. These advanced creatures never speak to us and the
individuals that we seek do not communicate either. It is all about learning in
 an
accurate and non-political way. My advanced life forms have no agenda
other than truth. I'm sure my 'videos' would include Jesus having sex with
Mary M. and Zoroaster asking a confidant "How far do you think I can go with
this idea?" And Dr. Gene Scott laughing at the fools who sent him beaucoup
bucks. We would also get ALL of the gospels instead of the ones the
political operatives decided we should have.

I've been in this scenario for several years now and it is a happy place.

Keep developing yours. It expands the mind and makes wondrous things
possible.
