That's a fair summary of the prevailing view.  Most people in Silicon Valley 
obsess over the positive material aspects of technological improvement, and 
gloss over the potentially negative human costs.

That said, we are seeing more debates here about the ensure those dislocated by 
"progress" move forward in leading productive lives and making better choices:
