Letter to a friend:

I eagerly tuned in to CBS News today. After all, anyone with a smidgen

of intelligence would have made the news about the vote in Scotland
the most important story of the evening. About 22 minutes later, there
it was, 2 minutes about Scotland, most of that about the take of cabbies
on how the election might go, as seen from yesterday, and several shots
of crowds, plus maybe 30 seconds of time showing politicians speaking
short sound bites about their views of the results.

That was it. The lead story was about the domestic violence issue in the
NFL.
After that there were stories about the lack of medical clinics in Liberia
to
treat Ebola, etc, and one segment of about 90 seconds with Leon Pinetta
saying that it was his opinion in 2011 not to withdraw US troops from Iraq,
which was a worthwhile story but which did not appear until about the
15 minutes into the show.

The Scotland vote, by any objective standard, was the most important story
of all, yet it wasn't broadcast until, I think, ten other stories had
been aired first. Just after the half-assed reporting about Scotland,
to give you an idea of how important the story was to CBS,
came a segment about two lost dogs.

I simply CANNOT Believe such idiotic "news" priorities.
Sure, the Pinetta interview was actual news. Anyone who has the least
comprehension of the saga of Iraq knew in 2011 that a US troop pullout
would in all likelihood result in something like what did, in fact, happen.
With US soldiers in situ this past June the ISIL capture of Mosul
(with it $500 billion from the bank, plus about 50 M-1 state of the art
battle tanks) simply would not have happened. The US army could have
sent 10,000 or so soldiers, and not only kicked ass, but "stiffened"
the half-witted Iraq army such that it might actually have fought.

Anyway, CBS did not draw the obvious conclusion, BHO is an amateur
who is basically clueless, who made one of the worst possible decisions
in his life in 2011 and now is waffling again about how to deal with ISIL.
None of which excuses the half-baked GOP candidates for office
in 2008 or 2012, nor excuses equally bad decisions made by Maliki
or the Iranians, but the fact is that we have a president who is a
world class f**k up.

The news should have started with Scotland -because of all the many
implications, and consisted of serious analysis for at least 5 minutes,
followed immediately by the ISIL story. Probably the Ebola / Liberia
story should have come in at # 3, but NOT with the goddamned human interest
angle made use of, "see how sad this all is for a little girl."

I am utterly flabbergasted, dismayed, sick to my stomach.
Yes, usually CBS news and other network news is worthless,
but tonight, I thought, since Scotland is so important, there
would be some real news for a change.

Fergit it, not gonna happen.

We simply do not have network actual news services any more.

Billy
