Centroids: Late this afternoon, riding my bike home from the supermarket after buying some needed groceries, I was hit by a car. Please do not worry; none of my groceries were injured or damaged. However, one leg was banged up and now hurts like Hell, or at least like Purgatory. There do not seem to be any broken bones or other major physical problems, just some swelling here and there, and I anticipate a return to normal in due course. The front wheel of my bike now looks like a pretzel, however, and that does not make me happy. We will see how this all plays out with the driver's insurance company or whether I will need to find an attorney. I was slowly crossing an alley when the car barreled into me, fortunately also going slowly. This allowed me to divert the worst of the impact by diving to one side, away from the car. Still, the whole episode stunned me as I got up from the concrete and it took a good three hours to finally return to some sort of normal state of mind Uhhh, a car leaving an alley to enter a street must yield right-of-way to any pedestrians, cyclists, or other vehicle, according to Oregon law. The driver looked only one direction, the opposite from my direction, and was too close to a solid fence for me to see him approach until my front wheel was already past the alley pavement that crossed the sidewalk. I saw him only at the moment he was crashing into me. It all was seen by a witness who lives directly across the street from the site of the collision, a nice lady who came rushing over when she saw what had happened. All of which is more than anyone wanted to know but it seemed like a good idea to explain that this has set my schedule back several hours and when the next chapters will be ready is anyone's guess. Will know by morning if the leg needs medical attention. BR
