Usually when elites lose touch with the masses the only alternative is widespread rebellion followed by suppression. However disastrous Trump may be as a person, we should be incredibly grateful that our fellow citizens were able to resolve their differences vie the ballot box. Trumps election is going to force us to grapple with all sorts of ugly issues we have been ignoring. If I may use a marriage counseling analogy, it is like when one partner has an affair. Devastating and Immoral, but often the only possible trigger to get both partners to acknowledge and confront deeper issues. To be sure, Trump himself May make those issues worse. But by forcing a public conversation - including policy proposals – we will have a chance to act like responsible grownups in 2020. Which won't be easy, but at least now it's possible. If Hillary had been elected, the pressure would only have gotten worse. Now that it has been released, we can finally do something with it.
