For what it's worth, I agree with you that the standard evangelical exclusivity is poorly founded. If the literal name of Jesus was required, then Abraham and Moses would be damned. :-/ I find it more consistent to read it as "the character of Christ", in Keeping with Hebrew usage. Only those parts of us that conform to Christ-- however we get there -- can live forever.
