Progress Report August 18, 2017 What started out as one book in January has now morphed into a collection of books, my very own but incomplete Pentateuch. Two of these compositions are -or will be when completed- fairly short as books go, maybe more like full-treatment feature articles. The other three are designed to be full length, with the text that started it all, The Power of Popular Culture, estimated to run to about 500 pages. I am terrific at starting such projects but miserable at completing them. Still, I am soldiering on, and at least have high hopes that each project will eventually reach the finish line. There is a timeliness to one of these books that makes it imperative to release as much of the volume as possible now, and not wait. This is a book entitled Stop calling the Islamic State "ISIS." Three chapters are in final form and will be sent shortly. You may agree that the contents of even just these three chapters are sufficient to cause extreme problems for the news media, primarily to speak of cable television news channels, the legacy TV networks, and most newspapers, but this also includes a number of quality magazines including my favorite periodical, The Atlantic. But it is necessary to be explicit about what my new chapters say. This is very important. These three chapters will make it impossible for the media to continue to refer to the Islamic State as "Isis." This will cause serious problems for the news organizations in question; each will realize that it is wide open to a class action lawsuit for major damages. My best prediction is that these news outlets will respond with denial and for a while will continue, business as usual. That course of action will prove even more costly than an immediate change of policy but the nature of the beast is what it is. My objective, of course, is to expose the media for what it is, amoral, grossly irresponsible, more than willing to deny the equivalent of due process to anyone it sees fit to defame through de facto smears or sins of omission. My contempt for the mainstream media is nearly absolute. There are other very important chapters of the 5 books that are a high priority and that is where most of my time is being spent. Billy R.
