Here’s how I frame it. I think the biggest problem with both Silicon Valley and Academia is *groupthink*. They prioritize certain kinds of virtue and learning, and utterly disregard the lessons and wisdom of those outside their particular circle. Now, *part* of that is in fact necessary. There is a lot to be said for having “the beginner’s mind”, of “not knowing what is impossible”, and “disregarding common sense.” That is the entire history of both philosophy and innovation, after all. The real danger is when a mostly innocent childlike arrogance of “I know better than everyone else” grows up into a powerful arrogance, and solidifies into contempt for the opinions of others. The only antidote I can think of is the H-word, but perhaps you can think of another one… E -- -- Centroids: The Center of the Radical Centrist Community <[email protected]> Google Group: http://groups.google.com/group/RadicalCentrism Radical Centrism website and blog: http://RadicalCentrism.org --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Centroids: The Center of the Radical Centrist Community" group.
