Yes, but the uniquely character-building aspect of modern programming is that, 
several times per day, you are forced to confront the ugly objective truth that 
your assumptions about reality are just WRONG. And you can’t progress until you 
swallow your pride and dig through the pile of *** to find out where. 

Every other discipline I’ve seen, including physics, has a much longer interval 
between such moments of reckoning.
