>From what I can tell, the Social Capital model offers real promise. However,

the format is proprietary, it also is difficult to read because the typeface

is Ariel and the font size is 8 point. Its like reading a news story but set

in the size of cheap want ads.

I wanted to copy the 40 Problems and look them over by changing the font style

and the size but could not do so unless I signed up with a service I am not
interested in.

But let us look at one problem that can be copied:

  1. Disrupting Education
     * Can we educate humans in interesting ways so that they learn to think
in multi-disciplinary ways?
     * Can we educate people in small, continuous ways so they keep learning
throughout their lives?

Nothing wrong with these ideas; they make good sense, etc. But they also miss
the point

I was trying to make. And they seem to assume what I said tech people
habitually assume,

namely, that the only way to proceed is to take it as a given that social
values necessarily

consist of the values embodied in the platform of the Democratic Party.

Not saying that is "all bad," but this does mean that a good number of what we
may

call Biblical values are ignored or rejected outright.

I mean, exactly what does multi0discipolinary reduce to? And what is it,
exactly, that

people are learnjng in small incriments throughout their lives?

That is, this is strictly "insturmental." It assumes we aleready know the answer

to values questions, and these answers are exactly what the Democratic Party

has been saying ever since Clinton was in office.

As such it is "safe" and non-contriversial; all we need to do is roll up our
sleves

and get to work. But, to me, that is exactly what makes the idea questionable
-or

VERY questionable.

Its kinda like saying, your house needs major foundation repairs,
and then remodeling the first floor by replacing some windows

and selecting new doors. Duh, these may be good things to do

but the foundation still needs to be repaired.

Hi Billy,

In other words, clearly, the way forward should be for computer mavens to
identify what they cannot do, where serious social and intellectual changes are
really coming from, and work with people who do know what the hell is going on
in those areas, and interface with them in order to produce results that
matter. But will this happen?
Surprisingly, Social Capital is trying to do exactly that:

To be sure, they are still narrowly focused on tech-enabled solutions, which
limits the kinds of problems they are willing to consider. And I have no idea
how to actually contact them with my solutions. :-/
