Ernie:

I could not get the link to work but visited the site via Google.

You are right, its not my cup of tea,

No reflection on Mr Stanley's good intentions, but once more there

is what, for me, is a false choice. Either Evangelical faith or Atheism

and that is the one and only choice in life that matters.

A lot of people see things this way, no less than Bart Ehrman, for instance,

He chose Atheism. As far as I an concerned he made a mistake. Why?

I agree with him that there are so many problems with Evangelical religion

that it is theologically untenable. But this doesn't mean that there are

no truths to be found or that church experience isn't basically all for the
good.

And it doesn't mean that there aren't truths in different interpretations

of Christian faith. Or, for that matter, in Buddhism or some special

version of New Age religion, etc.

Anyway, this takes us back to what I recently said about Atheist TV here in
River City.

There it is, every week, several days, "The Atheist Show." And there is zero

by way of Christian response.

Not talking about someone doing selfies with voice over. The Atheist program

has decent production values, it is a team effort. For that you need an actual
team.

No Christians hereabouts seem to care.

I've offered my services for the exorbitant cost of $0.00 -and no takers.

Of course, there is a catch, no way would I follow the Evangelical path

in what I might do. Sure, I would be aware of that path and respectful

toward it, but that path simply isn't me. And so we get one more

"my way or the highway."

OK, I will keep this in mind for future reference.

There is a lot to say on behalf of Evangelicals but this isn't one of them.

Which, of course, is another conundrum.

Hi Billy,

" I very much hate to read "Atheist books." Why? Because they challenge me to
think critically about my own faith, or about my own doubts.

They provoke me to think hard about the reasons I have for my views About
religion generally and Christian faith specifically. Sometimes their objections
simply cannot be ignored and sometimes there is no choice but to re-think some
of my beliefs in the process."

Have you heard of Andy Stanley?

YourMove.org<http://YourMove.org>

He’s rewriting a lot of the rules of evangelicalism. Probably not to your
taste, but he goes out of his way to read and discuss atheists and jettisons a
surprisingly large percentage of fundamentalist dogma in order to focus on
Jesus.

Again, I suspect you won’t be able to stand him personally, but he opens the
door to a much more intellectually sound and generous version of evangelicalism
that would address many of your concerns.

While this makes him very controversial, his bona fides (son of Charles
Stanley) make him hard to reject out of hand, and he’s gained a huge following.
