Indeed, this is a tragedy. The Notre Dame moved me profoundly when I visited. It had a spiritual magic enhanced by the progressive light of the stained glass.

The loss is incalculable, priceless art treasures and a world heritage landmark, not to mention what this iconic church means to the French and to Christians everywhere. This is a tragedy like no other. How could this have happened? So far, no word about the cause. The big question is how the fire could have spread so rapidly that even the efficient Parisian fire department could not get to the site fast enough to contain the blaze before it spread almost everywhere within the structure.
