[hmradio] ADS-B question

Stupid question: I'm monitoring ADS-B traffic using my SDR and seem to 
be picking up flights from pretty far I understand ADS-B uses 
1090MHz...My question is because im not using a particularly strong 
antenna...just the one that came with the SDR...so how the hell is this 
possible? Could it just be the radiowave propagation is just that good?
