Hi all At Max Nager’s suggestion - I am forwarding the email below that I just sent to the New York County ARES Membership. I hope that each of you will consider joining ARES. Just let me know if you are interested and I hope to get to know you.
All the best Mary Diver - K2MTD EC New York County ARES __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ By default, coercion, and lots of encouragement I am now the Emergency Coordinator for New York County. Now I know most of you experienced members may not think that I am the best choice. But I promised that I would do my best and to ease my concerns many have offered their technical support when needed. I hope I can call on you too for technical support. I was invited to the District ARES Meeting on Friday evening where I met many new faces and everyone was very welcoming. The meeting was quite encouraging with some leadership changes. JoJo Gonzalez is the new District Emergency Coordinator and the meeting was quite dynamic with many new ideas. He sees ARES as a family where everyone works together for a common goal. There are many plans in the works County Tac Frequencies - Determining best repeaters in each county and testing their range. 1) Can run on EMERGENCY POWER (and for how long...) 2) Can cover your COUNTY (or most of it...) 3) Can cover other Counties (or Part of it) 4) HT Friendly (Meaning an operator with only an HT can TX and RX to and from it) 5) REPEATER OWNER or TRUSTEE INFORMATION and REPEATER LOCATION if known I appreciate your input and suggestions. Could we plan a day to test some frequencies from different locations? Radio Days – A day of camaraderie and playing radio like a “mini field day” where everyone could socialize, BBQ, and test their radios. District Weekly Net – Goal of making the net more dynamic and exciting and generally more radio active HRU – ARES will have a table for the third year. Everyone agreed that the biggest issue in New York County is recruitment and that is going to be one of my main priorities. Let’s face it we share the borough with the Red Cross Headquarters and we have to be ready to respond when called on. Howard, Gordon, Max, Nell, Edwin --> I have your ARES credentials and would like to make arrangements to get them to you. If you haven’t filled in an ARES application and would like to please let me know. Anyone interested in Emergency Communications should be an ARES member. So everyone – keep an eye out for potential new HAMS and ARES members. Don’t forget to check into the District Weekly Net at 8:00 this evening at W2ABC. Make your presence known and practice your skills! Sorry I will not be able to check in – I have to attend a dinner for work at that very time. You definitely are the best person for the job and I think you are plenty experienced. I am not sure I can make the next meeting so it would be really great if you could mail the ID, or I can pick it up whenever is most convenient for you. Also, to bring up recruitment, I think it would be extremely helpful if you sent out an email to [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> with this announcement. I know we have at least 9 hams among our member body and I know a couple who are definitely interested. https://wiki.hackmanhattan.com/Amateur_Radio Can't wait! 73, Max KD2GJM On Dec 22, 2014, at 10:13 PM, dianne montague <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> wrote: mary, i think your are the perfect person for the job and will do a great job. dianne Sent from my iPad On Dec 22, 2014, at 11:12 AM, [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> wrote: By default, coercion, and lots of encouragement I am now the Emergency Coordinator for New York County.
