The Radio with battery pack will use the batteries to keep the clock going.
It will remember the alarm times and it will sound an alarm when needed.
This might be either the self-chosen station, stream, or in case of
failing network/internet: the fallback alarm.
Even if it is switched off, it will switch itself on and sound the
alarm if one is set.
Remember: This requires the battery pack to be installed.

I use the Radio now for several months on a daily base (with battery
pack), and every morning it wakes me up without any problem.
The only problems I encountered so far was that it produces the
fallback alarm while there is valid internet connection, and the
streams are working. It only happened to do that with the 2nd alarm
time set. I had another problem with stuck keys in the 7.5.0 beta
branch, but the name already says it: beta...
Nevertheless, even with the 2 problems I encountered: it always woke
me up at the right time, without failing to do so once !!!
