This is changing the topic somewhat, but another downside with LCD is scrolling text. The Radio frankly looks terrible when it scrolls text across the top of the screen. I think this is part of the reason why the text is so small. I'm not sure if this is a bug or what (double-buffering should prevent ANY flicker). But it's another area where the VFD rules supreme.
I think/hope they are still making Booms. Go get one?
