Post 7.4.2 radio will also support WOL (wake on lan) with alarms, this will make everybody happy. If you are using a local server, it will work just like the BOOM. A WOl command is issued 10 minutes before the alarm so if your server supports WOL It would come out of sleep or boot up depending on settings, so there is absolutely no need the run the server 24/7 even if you are using it for alarm. (my server bots from cold every morning when my BOOM send WOL )
Except for the Alarm, there are other serious issues addressed. Some people have an isp that reset/changes their customers external ip every nigth. This apparently breaks the radios connection to mysqueezebox.com this is/will also be fixed if it's not already fixed at mysqueezebox.com . Do not forget the dreaded Eu server congestion we had until recently ;) now logitech have beefed up the Eu server park. This did not help on top of 7.4.1 firmware. I understand why folks not using a server, if your not that musically interested and are happy with radio, or using one of those services that almost replaces the need for owning a music collection. I could not live without a local server I have thousands of CD's ripped and a lot of hirez files and other files on top of that. And I have a multi-room setup with a total of 3 squeezeboxes. But the radio is marketed to another kind of user too, and it is a very modest demand is that it actually works in this user scenario to. -- Mnyb -------------------------------------------------------------------- Main hifi: SB3 (soon to replaced by a Touch :) It is on preorder) Bedroom/Office: Boom Kitchen: Receiver (soon to be replaced by my SB3 and the SBR to be stuffed in a box in the attic ) I use a Controller various ir-remotes and a Eee-PC with squeezeplay to control this ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75541 _______________________________________________ Radio mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
