I have not had problems using in as an alarm clock... since last week. And, in order to get to this point, I had to upgrade to the lastest 7.4.3 version of software and then manually apply a fix for to the alarm file from the 7.5 stream.
I would only consider something truly reliable if my parents could get it to work every time.
