The sync between hardware and software players would never be perfect anyway...
But basically your squeezeboxserver does not put out sound the player does, so on a PC you need one of the software players running. These software player then conects to your server just like any other player on your network. Yes you can have software players on all your PC's not only the one that runs the server. SqueezePlay. SoftSqueeze. SqueezeSlave. These will behave almost like real players via the web-UI or controllers and simulate a player interface on the desktop.
