OK,I guess I can understand that plugging it in is designed to cause a
boot up, but what about when you close it down by holding the power
button for a few seconds. I would expect it then to stay powered off
until you hit the power button again, i.e. I would expect it to behave
like my Controller does. However it is impossible to have it plugged in
and powered off, it just keeps jumping into life. However if this is a
bug or a design feature it is one I  can live with no problem.

However the other part of my problem is more problematic i.e. that it
will not stay turned off while powered on, but always follows the cycle
described above ending with displaying the menu, normally within an
hour. So the only way I can stop it showing me a menu, as opposed to a
clock screensaver is to pull the damn plug out.

I do not have any alarms set.
