Your suggestion sounds like a good one. Why not ask for an enhancement at bugzilla. They probably would not get to it right away, depending on how big the code changes needed, but it would be good to plant the seed for the future.
Go to http://bugs.slimdevices.com /enter_bug.cgi?product=SB%20Radio Under Component, choose Alarm. Under Severity, choose Enhancement. In Description, just cut and past what you wrote here which was very clear, and then encourage people to vote for it. I would certainly vote for it and I think others would too.
