@MickeyG: the make and model of mp3-player was an iPod touch 2nd generation; Basically all songs I tried were not loud enough (though they are very loud when heard with headphones plugged into the iPod).
@Grahame and andynormancx: thanks for the information. I just searched for the settings of the line-in-gain in order to increase the default value of 50 as suggested in the Boom-thread (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67519&highlight=line+volume), but the option is not available for the SB-Radio (neither within the Squeezebox Server settings on my computer, nor via the Radio itself).
