This sound was turned on in the latest 7.5.1 firmware. Ever since, some Radios have started making the "battery just plugged in" sound even when the unit has no battery. The screen will brighten when this happens too. We're looking into it. It could possibly have something to do with spurious IR being seen by the IR receiver, but it's going to require more investigation.
I have four Radios on my desk, and only one does this. It doesn't have a battery in it. (Yes, I have trouble getting batteries too.) It's highly annoying -- I hear the sound every minute or two. A workaround to this issue is to turn off this sound by going to Settings->Audio Settings->Sound Effects and uncheck the box next to Charging. The screen will still brighten, though. It's not a fix, but it's a relief not to hear it anymore.
