I've seen other similar reports on this - seems the radio occassionaly "thinks" it has a battery installed when it doesn't, and that chirp is the indication that the battery is charging. It's possible to turn off the audible indications, but I don't recall the exact process. There should be a "bug" filed - if I find it I'll post a link so you can vote on it to try to get more attention. I've never notice this with my Radio, but I have a battery installed so it's a different situation.
