caszw: I have a SqueezeBox Radio (SBR) with firmware 7.5.1 r8837, the latest 'final' version offered. I use the headphone jack to drive my stereo system and it sounds very good. Assuming the 'speakers' you intend to use offer a 'line level' input they should work equally well.
The only issue I have with the headphone jack output is when you do a reboot of the SBR, by holding in the power button for a few seconds, the radio outputs some extremely loud irritating noise, much much louder than the music level. I would be interested to know if this also occurs with your SBR. Of course I wouldn't need to reboot it so often if it didn't have so many firmware issues!
