Hi bpa, I had the same trauma last night when I tried to listen to On Demand AAC on the Iplayer and the Iplayer extra applets. I am outside the UK and neither work since yesterday, giving me the same error message you mention. They do not work on Squeezeplay on my pc either. But the iplayer itself works fine on the PC via the BBC website.
The developer for the iPlayer applet is Triode who is active on these forums and maybe he is working on this. In the meantime, go to the advanced settings on your radio, then applets and install the BBC Radio applet.
