Yes, you can use any combination of SB players with or without a control device/App without a local SBS server. i.e. no SBS server on PC/Mac/NAS or Touch's inbuilt TinySBS But this means your players and device/App controlling the players must be connected to www.MySqueezeBox.com online for internet radio, music services, podcasts. However, when connected to MySB.com you have no access to your locally stored music (which requires SBS server).
