Not quite the same problem, but my radio was prompting for a firmware upgrade.
After installing the "upgrade" it couldnt find the wireless network at all, displayed the red icon. Rebooted it and still it didnt find anything. I then did a restore to factory settings under the advanced menu, it then found the wireless again! Then prompted for an upgrade again, which I installed and this time its worked.
