I can get KKGN, Oakland on AM radio here in Sonoma County, but with a
lot of noise. For now I will listen to a set of stations across the
country via my SBIII. Right now I'm listening to John Fugelsang guest
host the Stephanie Miller show on WCPT 820-AM Chicago. That way, when
I get in the car, the same show is playing at the same time on the
radio. I tune in to other shows on other stations who broadcast the
same show at the same time as KKGN, so when I drive, I can listen to
the same show at the same time as at home.

My setup is a bit strange, but I prefer to listen anywhere in my
apartment or woodworking studio, *even when my laptop is shut down.* I
use the Squeezebox to feed a CCrane low-power FM transmitter which gives
me decent quality sound anywhere in the house. Much of the rest of the
day, I listen to music from many sources, and the SBIII is great for
that. I usually listen to jazz or classical music when I'm trying to
get some work done, and there are still enough music stations streaming
MP3 to keep me happy for now.

It's apparent that the rapid cycle of modern obsolescence for
electronics has caught up with me. I may end up getting a good AM
antenna and feeding the CCrane unit based on that. I'm a senior with
limited income, but I hope to eventually buy a used Squeezebox Touch to
get the AAC capability - but who knows when AAC will be supplanted by
yet another new stream format.
