There are a lot of names for different variations on the theme of AAC
and AAC+ but yes those variations that use Spectral Band Replication
(SBR) should only be used for relatively low bit rates since SBR won't
perfectly reproduce the top octave of the encoded waveform no matter
how high a bitrate is used.

Hence AAC without SBR will be better overall at higher bit-rates (over
something in the region of 96 to 128kbps for normal near CD quality
audio).

AAC+ refers to AAC with SBR while AAC is usually AAC without SBR.

There are numerous variations and I find it quite hard to work out with
use SBR and which do not.
