I do the same. And on some SB devices, the best way to do this is to
first temporarily turn OFF the DHCP server in the router, then do a
re-setup on the SB player.  If your router is 192.168.1.1, and dhcp
starts handing out addresses at, say .100, then you'd have the
following fixed ip address for a player:

IP:  192.168.1.25  (this .25 could be anything between .2 and .99)
Subnet:  255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS: 192.168.1.1

any 1 digit #'s above can be entered in SB players as 001 if needed
(i.e., 192.168.001.001
