Absolutely agree ... classical corporate story though - and very sad
indeed, given the absolute brilliance of the architecture, the potential
it has embedded and the sheer joy that the vast majority of the very
substantial numbers of users gain from it all. The only real analogy
that I can come up with would have been Microsoift giving up on the
first iterations of Excel because it was so clunky compared with the
then much used and appreciated Lotus or Supercalc. Since Microsoft was
driven by a passionate CEO who understood the product line inside out at
the time, they perservered - shame that Logitech has never really had
the same quality Exeec Management. They are clearly just run of the mill
US execs with little or no understanding of their own product lines.
Furthermore, they are clearly are subject to - rather than controlling -
their marketing wonks, internal politics and limiting, self-driven,
individuals who would sacrifice anything rather than see another man's
good idea succeed. My new aim in life is to avoid the whole mob like the
plague - I will however be faithful to the Squeezebox line, because it
simply works and delivers precisely what I need. No credit to Logitech
for that, however - all the credit must go to the legion of developers
who used their passion & expertise regardless of the diminishing returns
available for them personally
