Typical clocks?  That is absolutely not true at all.  "Typical" alarm
clocks have a battery backup, even the cheapest ones you can find at
Wallyworld.  I have an old Sony Dream Machine radio from the mid-90's
that doesn't even have a battery.  It charges up an internal capacitor
to store a charge and it works flawlessly with no power to it.  Still
use it to this day.
