Even if you could replace/hack the wifi card - you'd then have to build a driver for the new hardware - for that you'd need kernel build environhment which is not easdy for Radio. Then you'd need to mod the player s/w as it sets up the network connections - again not an easy build.
Wouldn't it be easier to buy a dual band wifi to Ethernet adapter. Most are desinged to connect TVs/Games boxes to home wireless netwroks and so need a mains connection. If you need a portable solution - there are compromises - portable battery powered router device such as TPLink MR3020 configured into Client mode but only 2.4Ghz so no real advantage.
