That seems quite feasible if it were the radio only but what about the controller? Wouldn't the controller have picked up the new channel after I did a full reset? There was definitely nothing in the cache then but it couldn't see the network or connect to it when I entered the data manually. Also, I had rebooted the router more than once by switching it right off and leaving it for at least one minute before switching on again.
