There is a wiki http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Main_Page

Short LMS is a local server that you can install to play your own files
(it installs on many things like pc's mac's nas boxes raspi ).

mysb.com is a remote server and service you can esentially use the
player without any other hardware except an internet connection if you
only ever use web radio and some supported services .

The 2 can be integrated . If you have a local LMS running feed it your
mysqueezebox creds and use the service trough the local server adn there
is no longer any need to switch between them .

What can be confusing is the plethora of apps and plugins aviable and
where they run :) but this is also due to the architechture of the
system squeezeboxes where made for over 10 years and the older ones does
not support spotify for example.
Plugins runs on the server apps on mysb.com and some directly on a radio
or touch .

And thus will always need a locxal server . And as the LMS server
expands format support as it can transcode , you will see that the whole
sytems supports many more formats than the actual players , there native
format support is ofcourse different , depending on age of the player .

A more specific tread on what you intend to do would probably give you
better answers .

Plugin apps showing up nowhere ? that can be that some plugins only have
UI for the web-UI of LMS or the menu system of SB3 and Transporter , but
not on Squeezeplay (Touch and Radio ) some plugins are realy old.
Some plugins actually only offer som extra settings that makes sense to
only expose in the server settings....
