If the Radio has been plugged in for many hours or days, and I then unplug it, it instantly turns off, or occasionally displays a low battery warning and shuts off a few seconds later. If I then plug it in (usually because I'm playing it) and leave it plugged in for a couple hours, the battery charges and is able to play on battery for several hours.
Are you sure it's charging all the time? I've seen flaky behaviour with a connector coming loose, or a broken charger cable which needed specific positioning before it would actually charge...
