Is it wanted or a mistake that the vim syntax file is not in the
tarball? The CREDITS file too.

You should probably add ragel.vim to EXTRA_DATA for it to be
distributed, and CREDITS to doc_DATA (dist_ shouldn't be needed given
that both that and ChangeLog don't have generation rules).

And you can avoid having an empty NEWS file around by setting automake
into foreign mode.

Other than these notes, it seems okay on Gentoo Linux, testing
Gentoo/FreeBSD and then pushing the package down to the users.
