Perhaps taking a wiki approach would be a better way to target this fundage? I'm thinking about doing this with RubySpec...get the community contributing to the wiki, using the money as "prizes" for the top contributors. I think it's important that documentation efforts like this involve a larger community, and hiring one person won't accomplish as much as "encouraging" dozens or hundreds of them.

Does that seem reasonable?

It seems like all the good writers are off writing Rails books.
Unfortunately, the promise of fame and fortune has sucked the talent
from the documentation pool, and the ruby on rails docs have fallen
by the wayside.

The standard response from most coders I spoke to was "sure, I'd love
to help, but I'm terribly busy." So, you're making a living from
rails? You should consider putting up $10, or $50, or whatever, to
fund a professional to spend some quality time alone with the API
docs. We're aiming at $5,000 USD.

go towards paying one or more people to enhance the Ruby on Rails API
docs. If you want some serious props, please attach your name or fire
