I think at this point from my point of view probably the best thing to do as a
matter of some urgency is to set a database timeout to match the overall
timeout - after all if the whole controller action is meant to be limited to
30s then no database can ever take longer than that.
What I'm not sure of is how easy it is to set the database timeout dynamically
- you can set it in the database configuration but that's a one shot thing.
