Howdy,

Last Thursday was the inaugural Iron Hacks night for the Melbourne
Ruby group; the turnout was small but I think its fair to say that fun
was had by all.

The mystery ingredient was Bonjour and it was used to tasty effect on
a number of different projects.

Xavier Shay cooked up the Curlophone orchestra and took out the top
prize of the Ruby spoon + a $100 Threadless voucher to boot -
http://github.com/xaviershay/curlophone-orchestra/tree/master.

Pete Yandell and Matt took out second with their MacRuby bouncing balls demo.

Daniel, George and Mark Ryall added private messaging support to
Injour, dubbed G'Day or Bongiourno.

Adam, Mick and Josh gave us Jourguide.

John whipped up Pagejour.

Honourary last place goes to Ryan for not even showing up despite
promising to give everyone a sound paddling.

Thanks to the ever generous Thoughtworks (who provide us with
sustenance and a venue every month), http://www.thoughtworks.com.

Thanks also to Stateless Systems, makers of bugmenot.com,
beatmyprice.com and others - http://www.statelesssystems.com. This
local Melbourne startup provided us with the $100 Threadless voucher
and they are also hiring - see the job description at the end of this
message.

Once everyone sends through the links to their projects I can put up
an entry in place of the analogue blog. Also, if there are any
volunteers to run next month's meeting (you choose the format), please
get in contact with Pete Yandell.

Thanks,

Brent.

And here's the job description from Bevan Clark:

We are looking for a like minded Ruby programmer who really wants to
engage in the craft by hacking code with our small team at
statelesssystems.com

Ruby is typically our weapon of choice, the work is interesting, all
in house, very rarely generic CRUD applications and we contribute back
to the community where we can. Our last application beatmyprice.com
used Merb, Memcached, DataMapper, Sphinx and Nokogiri to name a few
goodies and during development we wrote and released 6 Ruby libraries
and 5 JQuery plugins between the four of us.

Both the ideal workplace and ideal work are a matter of opinion but if
the idea of hacking code with us sounds at all interesting drop me an
email and we can organise a full wine and dine tour, or a coffee and
sandwich if you prefer. Rest assured, we are profitable, we pay well
and we have no suits on the team.

Send a mail to bevan (@) statelesssystems.com if you're interested.
