Hello, I thought I should throw my own $0.02 in...
I've been using an Ubuntu VPS from Octopus Computing (www.octopus.com.au) who are based in Sydney. I too have used Slicehost before, but I now use Octopus because their prices are reasonable and I can get a very snappy 10 ms ping time to my server. I've had no issues with speed, stability or anything like that so far.
