Who was cheering? Where's the cheering? Oh... trollbait. Sorry -
let's move on...

Ours? Speak for yourself. I use it every day and consider it a
godsend. I also use C-Ruby, perl, Java, and whatever else I need to
get things done.

Again, speak for yourself. And some advice: if some way-cool-tech is
your competitive advantage, particularly an open-source, freely
available way-cool-tech, you're in a for a surprise. I suggest
switching to analysing the problems and needs presented to you by your
employer/client/etc.

I work both in and out of the enterprise. I'm not worried.

Nope. Still not worried.

No. All ruby needs is some hard disk, some RAM, a CPU and a compiler.

...and that is irony. Anyway, Charles Nutter is way ahead of you:

And to the person with the 30 second start-up time: have you tried
using a computer? And if that's still not fast enough:

For real awesomeness, I'll point y'all to the following posts:
http://blog.headius.com/2009/01/my-favorite-hotspot-jvm-flags.html
http://blog.headius.com/2008/10/ffi-for-ruby-now-available.html
http://blog.headius.com/2007/07/understanding-jvm-jit-and-helping-it.html
http://blog.headius.com/2007/11/java-6-port-for-os-x-tiger-and-leopard.html

Warning: the above posts are by somebody who is actually getting
things done.

Finally, don't forget: Java != JVM, and the hotspot JVM is probably
the most well optimised library available in the industry today. I
don't see how anyone could shun it in the interest of "competitive
advantage".
