As an aside, was the gem you used for it Windows-specific? The roo gem,
which I'm using for a hobby project, doesn't even allow the creation of
Excel spreadsheets.

The thing that disturbed me with the essay "Beating the Averages"
http://www.paulgraham.com/avg.html was the assumption that programming is a
zero-sum game. My fear isn't that I'll be replaced with a better programmer,
but that people will decide that they have better things to spend their
money on than programming. For example, see this blog post about
