this app is in a similar sort of space (but different) - it's for managing social workers/kids for an orphanage. I've been planning to demo it for ages. In particular there's some cool selenium/JS stuff in there.

1) Maybe a starting point for 'Carpets for Communities'?
2) If anyone is looking for an excuse to cut their teeth on rails 3, the Matt is keen to get it upgraded.

It doesn't have commits since December, but it is still actively used.

I'm up for helping out with this, although I won't be at Rails Camp
(and will be overseas for 3 weeks in a week).

Give me a shout about this or other pro bono ideas. I imagine a coding
session in Melbourne could be organized for these sorts of things,
needn't be limited to Rails Camps.

Cheers,

This would be awesome for our charity 'Carpets for Communities'.

We identify kids who are working and begging at the Thai/Cambodia
border and at risk of child trafficking and we then meet their mums
and offer them work creating awesome eco/fair trade rugs from home.

We then ship the rugs over here and as volunteers we all sell their
rugs at markets across Australia.

The rug making provides the family with a replacement income so the
women can then afford to bring the younger kids home and send their
children to school. Education is critical to helping break the cycle
of poverty.

We have been envisanging an awesome rails app to manage our volunteers
and details of our participants their children and the products they
produce. Everything runs off google docs at the moment.

The better our information systems, the better things run, the more
rugs we sell, the more families we can take on.

So this would be perfect if anyone is interested to help us out.

Check us out here:www.carpetsforcommunities.org

I'll talk to the crew and get some more details up on the wiki or
whatever soon.

Cheers

Richie

Ps. We have market stalls selling awesome rugs at markets in
SA,NSW,VIC,QLD and WA so drop by some time and say hi! We're also at
WOMAD in SA this weekend so drop by if you're there.

The next generation of our campaigning platform is in Rails but we
have loads of side projects/features/ideas we never have enough
people/time/space/bandwidth to get to.

Throw them on the wiki ?

Yes!!
