Hi folks - I know this is a FAQ, but one that hasn't been asked for a while, and the answers keep changing!
We are currently exploring external hosting options for a new site, and were wondering what people's experiences are. Some constraints: * Australian hosted; we don't want the latency intrinsic in overseas hosting * High reliability and potentially high traffic volumes - this is for a big corporation, so decent SLAs are pretty important; and while we'll want to start small, we might have high visibility, and hopefully high usage, down the track * Ideally some level of virtualisation - having used ec2 for some stuff, I'd *love* anyone who offers similar flexibility locally, if it exists. * The ability to automatically configure machines - we'd like to automate as much as possible, so dev/test/prod environments are built quickly and consistently. Note that this isn't a rails app, so rails-specific magic isn't a plus; we really want to configure all the parts of the system ourselves from the OS up. Someone pointed me to the list at http://www.vpsau.com/ - but I'd love to know what people's actual experiences are. (Also this isn't set in stone - we might be forced to stay internal - but I'm living in hope!) - Korny -- Kornelis Sietsma korny at my surname dot com http://korny.info "Every jumbled pile of person has a thinking part that wonders what the part that isn't thinking isn't thinking of" -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby or Rails Oceania" group.
