I think continuing to use this list would be fine—However over the years I've had a bunch of employers email me personally to ask where the meetups are and they heard on the grapevine about their existance…
If anything, I think it'd be good to start using a calendar based service (meetup, lanyrd?) that had an API or HTML widget that we could drop into rubyonrails.com for such people.
