I’m David, I’ve been working on a couple of startups over the last
couple of years, most recently YourJobDone.com in London, which was a
mobile peer-to-peer marketplace for getting jobs done. Technically
speaking it was an SMS targeting and auctioning platform developed in
ASP.NET We got up to 10,000 users, 300 active.

I want to have a good crack at the same market in Australia, using a
much more socially integrated approach, and one which doesn’t cost $4
every time we auction off a job! The technology has changed
substantially since I started on YourJobDone (smart phone adoption up,
SMS costs up, HTML5 maturation, expansion of FB social graph etc) and
I have to return to Australia for a few reasons.

I’m currently experimenting with paths to market in Sydney, and it
looks plausible in a few markets.
I'm looking to team up with someone who is passionate about both
Collaborative Consumption (or social mobile peer-to-peer marketplaces)
and software engineering- a strong generalist in the mobile social web
(HTML5, FB social graph, anything that can be hosted in a Heroku-style
platform)

Part of the opportunity here is to get a lean hack together and go for
an incubator in Sydney or Melbourne (like StartMate)

I've no doubt the market is hot (similar businesses in the US, Zaarly
and TaskRabbit, entered later and have experienced v.fast growth +
have raised USD18m and USD7m). The other aspirants to this market in
Aus are early days.

I know the sector well. Though an engineer by degree, I've been in bus
dev and product for 3 years (both with former startup and
consulting).
If you’re interested, would love to have a chat, drop me a line here
or otherwise, other feedback also welcome.

David Caldwell.
